It’s the “DAWN” of a new day in stroke care. The latest research presented at Overlook Medical Center’s 18th Annual Stroke Symposium suggests that the window of treatment for some stroke patients may be wider than originally thought. The findings of the DAWN study show that certain patients with “slow-growing” strokes may benefit from surgical removal of brain clots, also known as thrombectomy, up to 24 hours after the on-set of symptoms. While physicians recognize that earlier treatment is always preferred, this research validates the success of clot removal procedures. Read more >
